Damien Delaney has twin targets after becoming a Town player - to get back in the Premier League and go to the World Cup finals.

The 27-year-old defender signed a two year contract at Portman Road on Thursday after joining from QPR for an undisclosed fee and will train with his new team-mates for the first time today.

Damien had a brief taste of the Premier League with Leicester at the start of his career and getting back to that level is his priority for the year ahead.

"Roy Keane is an ambitious manager and it's clear that he would not have come to this Club if he didn't think it was going places," Damien told Ipswich World.

"The manager has said that the target this year is to win promotion to the Premier League and that is what I've come to Ipswich for. I want to play at the highest level I can and I think Ipswich give me a good chance of doing that.

"Working with someone with the respect Roy Keane has in the game is obviously a big draw as well and I'm looking forward to getting going here."

Damien, born in the same hometown as Roy, Cork, has been capped twice by the Republic of Ireland under Giovanni Trapattoni and is hoping success at club level can enhance his international credentials.

"It's World Cup year coming up and I'd love to be involved with Ireland," he added. "If I can do well for Ipswich and have a successful year on the pitch then hopefully that can progress onto the international side."
